Your physical body, the vessel in which you live, is sending you text messages. They are not typed out in words from spoken language. Instead, the messages come in a more primal language. Sensations such as a gut feeling, surges of heat or the goosebumps of chills are so easy to justify, then ignore. As human beings, we are accustomed to a myriad of sensations and typically just carry on with whatever we are doing.

Then comes a more intense message from the body; like a headache, or a cramp, twinge or stabbing pain. The duration of more intense messages varies from a few minutes up to a few days. It is common to search for a way to alleviate the message, such as taking a pill for the headache or stopping an activity you were doing when the pain showed up. We are searchers by nature, using our brain to flip through a multitude of possible causes or reasons for discomfort. Typically, we will pick what we believe to be the “logical” cause and apply the brakes. We hope that by quitting whatever we believe brought on the painful message will make it vanish.

Example: I am walking on the beach for exercise and feel my calf cramping up. I give it a quick stretch, then begin to walk again. The cramp comes back with more intensity, causing me to walk awkwardly. I feel aggravated, and try more stretching. My…
